Strangers drive elephant table from Minnesota to Michigan to surprise grieving mom

At Brayden’s Ellies, every stuffed elephant carries a message of love and courage. What began as one family’s story of loss and kindness has grown into a mission to bring comfort to children battling illness — one Ellie at a time.
Each Ellie we delivered carries Brayden’s legacy of kindness, reminding every child that they are strong, brave, and loved. 🐘
For Christmas in 2016, our son Brayden gave his mom a picture of a baby elephant, telling her, “This is you protecting me, Mom.” Ten months later, in October of 2017, Brayden was diagnosed with a rare childhood liver cancer and passed 11 months later at age 13. His kindness and belief that everyone deserves love carries on in ways we could never have imagined. When a group of women I’d never met passed a little elephant table across six states for me as a surprise to my wife for Christmas, I knew we had to pay it forward. We began collecting stuffed elephants for the kids at the cancer clinics and hospitals where Brayden was treated. No, we have delivered over 3000 elephants bringing smiles, love, and a bit of happiness to their day.
Every stuffed elephant represents kindness in action — delivered directly to a child who needs a smile.
From your donation to a child’s hug, we share every milestone so you can see the difference you help create.
Families, schools, and local partners join together to collect, tag, and deliver hundreds of elephants each year.
To bring comfort, courage, and connection to children battling illness through the simple gift of a plush elephant — a symbol of love, protection, and hope.
A world where every child facing illness feels surrounded by kindness, strength, and the support of a community that truly cares.
At Brayden’s Ellies – Room 4 Kids, we believe that a healing space can change a child’s entire fight. Our program provides complete bedroom makeovers for children facing life-threatening illnesses, giving them a clean, peaceful, and uplifting environment to rest, recover, and feel safe.
When you nominate a child, volunteer, or support a makeover, you’re helping a child feel seen, loved, and supported.
Families and volunteers work side-by-side to transform each room. Every makeover is built with heart, intention, and the belief that kindness should be felt the moment a child walks through the door.
Every child is unique — and their room should be too.
We design spaces around their favorite colors, themes, and comforts, and when needed, we provide:
Fresh paint
New flooring
A mattress
Furniture
Personalized décor
All crafted to create an environment where healing and happiness can grow.

Hello, My 7 month old daughter is receiving chemotherapy at Children's hospital in Detroit for an optic pathway glioma. At treatment this week she was a little fussy, so our doctor gave her one of your elephants. She loved it and was soon sleeping with it. She kept it next to here during the entire process. Thank you so much for putting together this wonderful program. These types of acts of kindness are so touching and have made this battle so much more bearable. Thanks

My daughter was born 12/18/23 the same night we took her home at just three days old she was rushed back to the hospital via ambulance for an unknown issue that caused her to stop breathing and turn purple. We spent a few days on the peds floor and they told us most likely my little girl wouldn’t be going home anytime soon for Christmas. Fast forward it was the night before Christmas Eve and they told if we felt okay we could take our baby girl home. Before we left the nurse brought a basket and said merry Christmas to your daughter. It was so sweet I tried not to cry. Long story short being a mom of a toddler and a newborn sometimes it takes awhile to get things to where they belong.. I went to go unpack her presents and I found this elephant. I thought it was so sweet and put it on her dresser almost as a little memory of how sweet it was when we were going through such a scary time in our life. I looked at the back of the tag and found your story. It’s amazing that families like you exsist. Something so trying in your life and you still want to give back. I just wanted to let you know that this little elephant meant the world to us as a family and my daughter will have it the rest of her life 💖

The little elephants have brought many smiles and comfort to our pediatric patients during their stay in our department. Thanks again for the kind donation.
